In celebration of our 10th summer, Shrimp Magnet is entering into a brand new initative that will transform its season on the Island into an unprecedented fundraising effort for children in the community of Toronto.

With the support of like-minded companies in our community, Shrimp Magnet proposes to donate every dollar we earn from our audiences directly to Moorelands, a Toronto Charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of children in at-risk, underserved areas of the city.

This will be a natural extension of Shrimp Magnet’s community-centred approach to theatre. It will also be an unprecedented partnership between theatre company and charitable organization. Most importantly, it will mean involving children and families in the act of charitable giving, which we hope will create awareness and inspire all who see our show to continue to donate and support charities and humanitarian organizations.

Moorelands is an organization that has devoted 90 years of service to marginalized youth in under-served communities in the Greater Toronto Area. Moorelands is dedicated to providing these youth with positive and fun experiences to help strengthen their confidence, competence and character. This is achieved through after-school programs, youth leadership programs, summer day camps, wilderness camp, a baby bundles program as well as a Christmas share. Because of our prime location – the Toronto Islands are one of Toronto’s main attractions with over 1.25 million visitors per year – our theatre hosts many people from many walks of life. This is exciting for several reasons. One is the chance to bring quality, original, family theatre to such a wide audience base and increase theatre awareness in general. Another is the ability to promote and to raise substantial funds for a worthwhile Toronto charity. Yet another is the great potential for outreach. Over a thousand people pass through our theatre in the course of one week. This is where your company can become involved.
