KATE
KEENAN - Playwright, Director and Artistic Director |
| Kate
first performed on the Island in 1993 with the Les Goons
Commedia del Arte Troupe. The following year, she and
high school mates started Island Treasures performing
original children’s theatre on the Island. After
training at LAMDA and George Brown, Kate enrolled in
an entrepreneurship course and created Shrimp Magnet.
In addition to performing in all the
Shrimp Magnet shows, Kate has toured North America as
Tansy in Tansy and Rosabelle, Caillou in Caillou and
Owl from Little Bear. Kate also spent an unforgettable
year as Turtle The Clown at Sick Kids Hospital. Having
co-written the last three Shrimp Magnet shows, Kate
is now focusing on a career in script writing and is
currently working with writing partner, Lesley Halferty
to turn Shrimp Magnet’s The Really Real Adventures
of Scott Free and Will Do into a cartoon television
series.

LESLEY
HALFERTY - Playwright and Founding Member

| Lesley
Halferty has been a student and performer of theatre
for 11 years. After graduating from Cardinal Carter
Academy for the Arts Drama Program, Lesley went on to
study for two years at George Brown College in the Theatre
Arts Program. Soon after leaving George Brown, Lesley
joined Kate Keenan in the running of Shrimp Magnet Theatre
Company.
Other children’s theatre credits
include the role of the Cheshire Cat in George Brown’s
production of Alice in Wonderland, and the work shopping
of At The Crossroads, with Roseneath Theatre. Her work
with children began at an early stage. While in high
school, Lesley worked during the summers as a drama
counsellor at a Toronto area Day Camp. There she worked
and performed with children aged 5-12. In her final
year in high school, Lesley organized a story telling
workshop for developmentally delayed teenagers.
Lesley has been involved with a new organization, Children’s
Peace Theatre. As the Program Coordinator Lesley has
created and implemented a program for children aged
9-11 that combines basic theatre training with peace
and conflict resolution studies. Lesley is both a performer
and instructor for the Peace Theatre.

MICHELLE
YEUNG - General Manager |
| Michelle
Yeung as had a love for the arts and culture for as
long as she can remember. In high school, Michelle fell
in love with the theatre and also studied Dramatic Arts
through an exchange program at Oxford University, England.
In her academic career, she has obtained a Bachelor
of Fine Arts from the Ryerson Theatre School in Theatre
Administration and also a Bachelor of Arts with Honours
from York University Communication Studies.
Most recently Michelle was the Associate Producer for
Resurgence Theatre Company, Marketing and Publicity
Coordinator for the King Township Museum, and Individual
Giving (Income Manager) for CanStage.
Currently, Michelle is working at The
Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts in Public
Relations and Promotions, She is also advancing her
professional development by training with Genovese,
Vanderhoof & Associates, in coordination with Cultural
Careers Council Ontario and the Centre for Cultural
Management, University of Waterloo, in marketing and
fundraising.
In the future, Michelle hopes to create
and bring theatre to smaller towns and cities, and she
hopes to further her academic career by fulfilling a
Masters of Business Administration degree.

Gillian
Lewis – Production Manager |
| Gillian
is a graduate of Ryerson University’s Theatre
– Technical Production program. She has been a
freelance Stage Manager for four years. She has three
Equity Apprenticeship credits for her work with Eldritch
Theatre on Dear Boss and The Babysitter. Gillian has
been fortunate to work in the area of theatre, puppetry,
dance, children's theatre and opera.
In the past four
years, Gillian has had the pleasure of working with
many artists including: choreographers such as Louis
Laberge-Cote, Yvonne Ng, Lucy Rupert, and Santee Smith;
directors like: Daryl Cloran, Kate Keenan, Todd Hammond
and Michael Waller; and, with many Stage Managers including:
Marie Fewer, Susan Jennings, Janelle Rainville, and
Michelle Ramsay.
Gillian spent
two years working for Off Centre Music Salon as an Administrative
Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator. She joined Shrimp
Magnet Theatre Company in the fall of 2004 and has been
their Production Manager ever since. In 2005, she spent
9 months on a National US tour with the children’s
show Clifford the Big Red Dog Live! Currently, Gillian
is delighted to be working with Cheryl Lalonde and the
rest of the staff at Toronto Dance Theatre..

Matt
is on Hiatus from his usual role as: Set Designer,
Technical Director and Education Officer of the company
to be a performer in Evil Dead the Musical this summer.
Matt has been working with Shrimp Magnet since performing
for the company as “Will Do” in 2005’s
“The Really Real Adventures of Scott Free and
Will Do”. Soon after finishing on stage he picked
up the job of Education officer and Technical Director
of the company. Drawing on a Masters of mechanical
engineering, a Bachelor of education, and a lot of
improvised theatre training he has worked as set designer,
props designer, puppetry designer, stage Manager,
technical director, web designer, performer, and education
officer for theatre companies in Canada and the US.
Theatre highlights include Evil Dead 1 & 2 the
Musical (Just for Laughs 2004, Off Broadway 2006/7,
Toronto Summer 2007), The Land of I told you So (Shrimp
Magnet 2006), The Adventures of Scott Free and Will
Do (Shrimp Magnet 2005), The Rocky Horror Show (Beyond
Chutleigh 2002) and the feature film Sidekick (Victory
Man Productions 2004). Matt is also working in the
education department of the Ontario Science Centre
and as such visits Mars twice a day and is forced
to play with liquid nitrogen.
